Dr. Kish supports patients in all stages of life

Dr. Kish supports patients in all stages of life.

Dr. Karen Kish has been a provider at The OB/GYN Group of Austin since 2005. Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Kish moved to Austin for the opportunity to job share with fellow provider Dr. Abikhaled – an arrangement where they split the work of a full-time job and share patients. Thanks to her job share, Dr. Kish has a unique perspective that allows her to better understand the importance of work-life balance and empathize with her patients.

Dr. Kish greatly enjoys caring for women in all stages of their lives. She manages both routine and high-risk pregnancies as well as complex gynecologic issues including abnormal bleeding, incontinence, menopause, and infertility. Dr. Kish works closely with Dr. Abikhaled and their physician assistant, Ashley Rowan. They all work together to support one other and better serve their patients.

Learn more about Dr. Kish and how her job sharing impacts the lives of her patients.

What drew you to The OB/GYN Group of Austin?

I was moving here from Los Angeles and I knew that Dr. Abikhaled was doing a job share. At the time, I was pregnant so that really appealed to me. It has been great to have that work-life balance.

What would you like every patient to know?

We are a full-service provider. We take care of adolescents, pregnancies and menopausal women. We are a one-stop shop.

What differentiates your approach to practicing obstetrics and gynecology from other providers?

From a personal standpoint, since I am a mom, I can certainly empathize with women. Also, since I job share with Dr. Abikhaled, I bring the work-life balance mindset and understand that sometimes it’s hard to keep that balance. That’s what I like about this practice – we can accommodate anybody. Whatever your personality, we will find someone that jives with you.

What is your favorite part of your workday?

I enjoy developing long-term relationships with my patients and getting to see them and catch up on their lives.

What daily healthy habits do you practice?

I love working out – I’m a crossfitter and a big hiker. We just got back from a trip with a lot of hiking which my whole family really enjoyed.

What most excites you about the future of women’s health care?

Minimally invasive surgery has come a long way, and we are able to do a lot with that nowadays which is really exciting. Also, there is a lot of exciting research on cord blood banking.
